Quick Chanya Ros

Chanya Ros is one among authentic vegetarian recipe in Goan Cuisine. This preparation can be made using white peas, green peas or Alsande (Black eyed beans).

I already have a Chanya Ros recipe. But I came across a quicker version that is super delicious.

Collect it:

· 200 Gram White Peas

· 1/2 Coconut Grated

· 2 Onions (one for roasting and the other

cut fine)

· 1 Table spoon Coriander seeds

· 4 Dry Red chilies

· 1 Tsp Turmeric Powder

· 1 Tsp Cumin

· 1 Tsp of Fennel seeds

· 1 Tsp of Poppy seeds

· 20 Peppercorns

· 5 Cloves

· 1 Small stick of cinnamon

· Small ball of Tamarind

· Salt as per taste

· Oil

Make it:

Soak the white peas overnight. Next day morning drain the water and then boil by adding salt and turmeric powder it until soft. Do not overcook.

Roast one onion, coconut and all the above dry spices (coriander seeds, peppercorns, cinnamon, cloves, poppy seeds, dry chillies, fennel seeds) by adding little oil.

Grind all the ingredients along with tamarind to fine paste using required water.

In a pan / wok add oil, once heated up add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add onions and sauté for a minute.

Once onions turns translucent add boiled peas and mix well.

After simmering for 2 minutes add the ground masala. Mix all well and cook for 10 minutes on a medium flame.

Serve with steamed rice or Roti / Chappati or even Bread.
